Baby Sleep SackMy son has used a baby sleep sack since he was a newborn and at 2 and a half he is still wearing one. I highly recommend them! I know we all imagine tucking out babies in at night into their beautiful co-ordinated cot bedding, but the reality is that babies and toddlers move around a lot while they sleep and it isn't long before they are kicking off their blankets! This just isn't possible in a sleep sack.
With a baby sleep sack you don't use any blankets. Babies have the freedom to move naturally and 'room to grow' yet they can't slip underneath, or wriggle out and wake uncovered, as can happen with blankets. The design of the baby sleep sack also helps reduce certain risk factors associated with SIDS as it promotes sleeping on the back. A baby sleep sack is sleeveless which is better for air circulation and prevents the baby sleep sack from riding up over the babies face. The other huge benefit to using a baby sleep sack is that it becomes a cue to your baby to sleep. When my son was a newborn I swaddled him and tucked him up really tight and I know this helped him fall asleep. When he was around 3 months, however I began to use a baby sleep sack as he became a lot more restless in his sleep. I used it for both his naps and his over night sleep. The older he got the more he began to associate it with sleep and understand that it meant he was going to bed. There are many different kinds of baby sleep sacks however, the baby sleep sack that I have for my son is the New Zealand made 100% natural Merino Kids Baby Sleep Bag
Babies can take as long as a year to develop the full capability to regulate their own body temperature, which is why they often wake too hot or too cold. Merino fiber is therefore ideal as it captures and circulates air to insulate them when the room temperature falls, and releases excess body heat and moisture as the room temperature rises. The Go Go Bag also has a hole on the front and the back of the bag which allows your baby to wear their sleep bag safely in a car seat or stroller (see the picture on the left). I really like this feature as it made it so easy to transfer my son asleep to and from his cot.
