I
was really fortunate to have the most amazing support and education and
I believe this is what helped me enjoy breastfeeding my son and
breastfeed him until he was 19 months.
The hospital where I gave birth to my son in New Zealand offered a 4 session workshop to pregnant women which I attended. It was run by a lactation consultant and each session taught us all we needed to know about breastfeeding.
The last session we were encouraged to bring our main support people from our family along. I was able to take my husband and mother so they were also able to receive the information I had and ask their breastfeeding quesitons. One of the main points that was made was that many woman give up
breastfeeding because they don't have the support they need. I have to say that the one thing this course left me with was that breastfeeding is a skill that needs to be mastered.
I hope the information on this
page will help you find the support you are looking for as well as the answers to some of your breastfeeding questions.

This book combines first person accounts of breastfeeding experiences with in-depth sociological and psychological exploration of the subject. It is not a book I recommend for new mothers, but one I feel should be required reading for every breastfeeding counsellor. Read the rest of this review |
