The Potty Book For Boys

My Potty Book For Boys:  Book Review

I think this is THE potty book for boys!  It was the first potty book that I bought for my son Jamie.  He was 20 months old and I wrapped it up and gave it to him for Christmas.  He has several potty training books now but this one is by far his favourite.

The Potty Book For Boys It follows the story of a little boy called Charlie Thomson while he learns to use the potty and leave his much loved nappies behind.  The book has coloured photographs and not the illustrations that many potty books have and I think this is what helps this book stand out from the rest and be THE potty book for boys!

It is told in a sing song rhyme which also helps add charm and appeal to a book that I would have to say we have read probably a hundred times in the last 4 months.

"My name is Charlie Thomson, and I am nearly two.  My mummy says I'm growing fast, and nappies just won't do!"  A very happy Charlie clad in nappies is introduced on the first page along with his teddy who is taught how to use the potty first.

A wonderful array of boys underpants  are  shown next as the text points out that mummy and Charlie go shopping for pants.  The shopping trip also helps Charlie select his potty and the next few pages show Charlie and some of his friends happily sitting on different shaped and coloured potties.  My personal favourite is the potty with its own wee roll of toilet paper attached, but Jamie likes the spotted one as he thinks it looks like a dog.

This book then follows an instructional sequence showing the stages from one to six of using the potty, as Charlie trains his teddy.  Unfortunately Teddy then has an accident which Jamie just loves as he can totally relate to this!

Finally it is Charlie's turn and the book ends with him sitting proudly on his potty with some stars around him.

This book also comes with a sticker chart and 80 star rewards that you can use to reinforce potty training.  Some of the stickers feature Charlie and teddy themselves which will help if your boy is like mine and really relates to the characters in the book.

My Potty Book For GirlsThere is also a My Potty Book for Girls (Dk Preschool)which is the girls version of this book.

Our book sits proudly next to the potty in the bathroom and Jamie sits right on the potty and asks for 'Charlie' so you could definitely say that this book has been a huge hit in our house.  We highly recommend this book to all boys learning to use the potty.  It has helped make using the potty more fun and has definitely helped give visual instructions on how to use the potty.  We believe it is THE potty book for boys!

I think this is THE potty book for boys so much that I have bought it as a gift for several of my friends children, including the version for girls, and they have also told me that it has helped their child 'own' the potty training process, so try it yourself and let us know how you find it!
